Message from the Director
This year was one of great change for our department, as we were able to use some of the Economic Stimulus money to purchase a software package that has been on our wish list for quite some time. RouteMatch is one of the premier Transportation oriented software companies in the world and we needed their capabilities and expertise to foster our growth through the next decade and beyond. Once the contracts were signed and the implementation team arrived, they realized that the geographic size and trip volume of our operation would be a challenge to any software company. They practically had to rewrite parts of the software in order to make it handle our workload efficiently and effectively. The company president told me personally, during a recent trip to their Atlanta headquarters, that our project has forced them to expedite their long-term strategic plan to the point that they have accomplished 5 years worth of growth objectives in less than a year’s time. We are glad that they have stepped up their operation and have met that challenge head-on. This new partnership bodes well for both organizations as we move to the forefront in technology and grow unhindered.
The implementation of RouteMatch and the management tools that it provides have allowed us to take a long, hard look at our own processes and procedures. In doing so, we have realized that our methods are sound, for the most part, but some of them have room for improvement. Identifying these portions of our operation where we are merely average, has allowed my administrative team and I to brainstorm and problem-solve at a new level and challenged us to improve some of our most tried and true methods. Thanks to my staff and their unprecedented ability to excel in the face of adversity, this challenge has been a welcome one, and has honed our abilities to adapt and change on the fly.
Our new focus for the coming year will be customer service and subcontractor relations, which are, by far, the most important aspects of any customer or client oriented business or organization. After all, the customers are the reason that we are all here, and the subcontractors give us the ability to serve a large number of clients over a vast geographical area. Luckily for us and for our clients, customer service is one area that we are particularly well suited for. After all, a little southern charm and hospitality goes a long way.
