WIA Adult Services

In general, the WIA Adult Program services are available to eastern Kentuckians ages 18 and older who are unemployed or under-employed. If training is required to obtain or improve employment. The program may provide:
  • Tuition
  • Required Books
  • Fees
  • Commuting Assistance
  • Meals
  • Child Care
  • Other approved expenses for classroom training.
  • Work Experience

Career counseling is also available.

About On-the-Job Training

On-The-Job Training is training by an employer that is provided to a paid participant, while engaged in productive work, in a job that provides knowledge or skills essential to the full and adequate performance of the job. OJT is provided under a contract with an employer in the public, private non-profit, or private sector. Through the OJT contract, occupational training is provided for the WIA participant in exhange for reimbursement of up to 50 percent of the wage rate to compensate for the employer's costs of training and additional supervision related to the OJT.

WIA Dislocated Worker

Dislocated Worker services are available to any Eastern Kentucky resident who:
  • Has been terminated or laid off from employment, or has received notification of an upcoming termination or layoff

AND

  • Is unlikely to return to work in his/her previous industry or occupation.

In coordination with other types of financial assistance, the WIA Dislocated Worker Program may be able to provide:

  • Tuition
  • Required Books
  • Fees
  • Commuting Assistance
  • Meals
  • Child Care
  • Other approved expenses for classroom training.

WIA Program Highlights

ON THE JOB TRAINING (OJT)

This year we have had two On The Job Training contracts. They were written with Teague Metal & Truss for $36,000.00 and KVC Behavioral HealthCare Kentucky dba KVC/Croney and Clark for $40,000.00. We have enrolled 2 participants with Teague Metal and 5 participants with KVC.

 AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT (ARRA)

During this program year we received allocations from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  We have had special project classes that consisted of: GED2Jobs, Finish Up For Free, Emergency Medical Technician, Physician Office Lab Assistant, Electrical, Computer, CDA and Kentucky Medication Aide. We served a total of 268 clients with these special project classes.

LKLP also operated the summer Let’s Go 2 Work program. We assisted 554 participants between the ages of 16-24 with summer jobs.
