Nutrition Education & Services

Nutrition education is part of LKLP’s Head Start curriculum. In addition to learning about healthy eating habits, students are provided breakfast, lunch and a snack each day. Meals and snacks provided consist of one half to two thirds of a child’s daily nutritional requirements. Proper hygiene is also implemented in to daily routines through daily teeth brushing and regular hand washing.

Individual Education Plans

Each child is unique and therefore, so is their way and pace of learning. At Head Start and Early Head Start, we tailor our activities to the individual needs of each student. This includes students with speech and development delays, as well as those with physical or mental disabilities. We want every child to feel confident in their ability to learn. Our education and early childhood development services provide a wide variety of experiences that encourage the development of language skills, physical strength and coordination, problem solving, self-confidence, appreciation of family, self and others.

“Head Start has helped our daughter, Eleanor, tremendously with her sensory issues and interactive play! The stimulation and one-on-one time she gets has turned her into a new child. She genuinely loves going to class! Her teachers, Glenna and Sandra, treat her like their own and are so patient with her. They have shown me that she is extremely safe at this facility. I am so thankful for our Head Start family!” Kassandra S., Head Start parent
“I’ve had four children attend Perkins Head Start, and I am so blessed that my children got to attend such an amazing program. They prepared my children for school teaching them how to share, how to communicate with other kids, and even help with potty training. When my youngest boy needed special help with speech and hand-eye coordination, they brought in specialists to work with him. They became part of my family, holding my children when they first came home from hospital and making sure every holiday was special for them.” Cathy Hall, Head Start teacher and former Head Start parent
