Providing Nutrition to Seniors in Need

LKLP is proud to be a source of nutrition for seniors throughout our region struggling to make ends meet. Each month, our outreach offices distribute commodity boxes in each of the four counties in our territory. Each box includes shelf-stable necessities, including a protein, carbohydrate, vegetable, fruit, cheese and milk. Recipients must be age 60 or older, have proof of residency in either Leslie, Knott, Letcher or Perry County, and show proof of income that is at least 130% below poverty level.

If you or someone you know could benefit from our Senior Commodities Program, please call your local LKLP Outreach Office to make an appointment to apply. Quantities are limited and there may be a waitlist.

Applications must be completed in-person and require the following information:

  • State or Federally issued ID card
  • Utility bill showing proof of address
  • Proof of income

“When you get low on food, the commodities come in handy. I only get $23.00 in food stamps and I won’t go grocery shopping till I pay my bills. That doesn’t leave me much to shop on. You can just watch the grocery prices going up higher and higher.”

Molinda Combs, a widow whose only source of income is her monthly Social Security check.
